Pilates Flow, often referred to as “Yogalates,” is a fitness practice that combines elements of both yoga and Pilates. Both yoga and Pilates are popular mind-body exercises that focus on improving strength, flexibility, balance, and overall well-being, but they have distinct origins and techniques. Yoga originated in ancient India and incorporates postures, breath control, meditation, and philosophy, while Pilates was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates and emphasizes core strength, flexibility and controlled movements.

The course blends these two disciplines to create a holistic workout that aims to provide the benefits of both yoga and Pilates in a single practice. Here are some key features of Pilates Flow course:

  1. Breathing: Like yoga, pilates flow places a strong emphasis on controlled breathing techniques, helping practitioners to relax, focus, and improve their lung capacity.
  2. Core Strength: Pilates is known for its focus on core strength, and this aspect is integrated into our course. You’ll often find exercises that engage and strengthen the abdominal muscles and the muscles surrounding the spine.
  3. Flexibility: Yoga is renowned for its stretching and flexibility benefits, and Pilates Flow incorporates various yoga poses to enhance flexibility throughout the body.
  4. Balance: Yoga includes poses that challenge balance and stability, and these elements are integrated into the course to improve coordination and proprioception.
  5. Mindfulness: Both yoga and Pilates promote mindfulness and body awareness. Pilates Flow encourages practitioners to stay present and connected with their body throughout the practice.
  6. Variety: Pilates Flow routines can vary widely, with some sessions leaning more towards the yoga side, while others focus more on Pilates-inspired movements. The specific blend depends on the instructor and the style of Pilates Flow being practiced.
  7. Equipment: While traditional Pilates often uses specialized equipment like the reformer, Pilates Flow typically relies on mats and props commonly used in Yoga, such as blocks and straps.
